Speaking:
How does a Nurse Practitioner become a speaker?
Blame it on the boss.
In 2007, Coleen's boss told her she needed to add research to her academic clinical role, but she volunteered to speak in a conference instead. Like her writing, the speaker role took on a life of its own, and Coleen is now an affiliate member of the Virginia chapter of the National Speaker's Association and will be joining the National group soon.
Listeners say Coleen infuses passion into her talks, handles questions with ease, and takes her talks to the level of the audience she is addressing.
Frequently Requested Talks include:
Medications and the Elderly; this talk is tailored to prescribers, health care workers, social service agencies, or family caregivers.
Treating Dementia in the Long Term Care Facility; appropriate for nursing homes or assisted living facilities; can be tailored for home health as well as family caregivers.
The Final Transition; addresses the challenges and stresses of moving into a long term care facility and the need to address long term goals of care; for staff, residents, and family members.
How to Call the Doc…or NP; a guide for long term care nurses before they pick up the phone or page the provider.
Diabetes in Long Term Care; adjusted as needed for professional or bedside staff as well as families and residents.
