About Coleen:

Coleen (with one L) is an up and coming speaker with expertise on writing and editing skills as well as multiple topics affecting the care of the elderly.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Virginia, and worked as a new graduate RN in geriatric rehab for UVA. She performed three years as a Head Nurse at the Westminster Canterbury in Charlottesville, Virginia, then, while continuing her education, she followed scenic mountain roads as a Home Health RN for the University of Virginia.

Coleen graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing with a Master’s degree in December, 1996, and is a board-certified Adult Nurse Practitioner (non-pregnant patients over 18 please). Since 1997, Coleen has worked through VCU’s Internal Medicine Geriatrics department serving long term care facility patients aged 60-105 and their families, as well as providing bedside teaching to nursing staff, medical students, nurse practitioner students, and MCV Residents and Interns.

In 2008, Coleen accepted a position as Adjunct faculty at the VCU School of Nursing, working with up-and-coming Nurse Practitioner students.

Writing, speaking and storytelling round out Coleen’s life, but you can read about those on other pages.
